"The reading of books with your child is one of the most important and enjoyable ways of spending time together. It leads to surprising and stimulating shared conversations between the two. Unfortunately this experience is often absent in the lives of deaf children, and a whole world of the sharing of books and stories is missing. With Signed Stories deaf children can watch and listen to great books with their family or friends, allowing them all to share the joy of stories, together."

Anthony Browne is an internationally acclaimed author and illustrator of nearly forty books, and was the sixth Children’s Laureate. Inspired by his father, Anthony developed a passion for art from an early age and after graduating from Leeds Art College worked as a medical illustrator and designed greetings cards before focussing on children’s books full-time. Anthony has had great literary success and his 1983 book Gorilla won a number of awards and is universally accepted as a classic. In 2000, Anthony received the Hans Christian Andersen Award for his services to children's literature – the first British illustrator ever to win the prize.
