Eileen Browne is an author and illustrator, with more than forty published children's books and is best known for her story Handa's Surprise, which has become a picture book classic. The story has been animated by several film and television companies and made into a theatrical/puppet production. Eileen was born and brought up in Birmingham and studied graphic design at Coventry College of Art, before moving to London to do an art teacher's course. After spending time as a teacher and youth worker, she went on to develop a career as an author and illustrator.
