Simple steps

There are simple steps you can take to support your child:

  • Learn how to use the internet and visit the sites your child is using. Make a list of the sites you think they would like. Visit our links page for information on free computer courses you can take.
  • Learn how to search your computer’s history and how to set up and use parental filters including how to block certain search terms and websites.
  • Put your computer in a family room so you can see what is going on. And make sure your child spends time away from the computer playing with friends for real.
  • Most importantly, keep the lines of communication open between you and your child so you will notice if they become withdrawn or secretive, and so they will feel comfortable reporting anything to you.
