Public libraries
Libraries are wonderful places! They’re free and fun for all children.
They nearly always have a section just for children with special furniture, making them fun places to visit. Regular visits to the library can help your child get interested in reading – and meet other children. And if they make a noise, the library won’t mind!
You can take out books and magazines – and today’s libraries often have toys, DVDs and computers with free internet access.
Borrowing books is one way of saving money. And most libraries don’t charge if children’s books are returned after the ‘due back’ date.
“We are a School Library Service serving 560 nursery, primary and special schools in Lancashire...this is a brilliant website, what a fabulous place for children to see current book resources in an accessible format”. Julie Blysniuk
“It looks like a great initiative. Families over here are starved for this kind of resource and with so many similarities between BSL and Auslan, I hope they will find it useful.” Aussie Deaf Kids
“Oh my goodness, these signed books are so WONDERFUL! I have been waiting and waiting for something like this online... I can tell you are a high-quality, progressive group who really cares about deaf children. Keep up the great work! Sincerely, Staci Bechard, mum and librarian at a deaf school in the United States.
